Mittwoch, 25. Januar 2023, 19:00–20:00 Artist talk by Akiko Kimura: „Sakura, Snow, Sky“

The series of photographs ‚Sakura, Snow, Sky’ was shot by Akiko Kimura at a time when the world suddenly changed, in the early days of the corona pandemic. In her own words:

In late March 2020, while the cherry blossoms were blooming around where I live, we had an unseasonal snowfall.
It was the first time for me to enjoy cherry trees in full bloom with a blanket of snow.
A week later, I captured a shower of their petals.
While I was taking a photo of the sky in the local park, a little girl, who was watching, asked “What are you praying for?”
Akiko Kimura

The works of Akiko Kimura are deceptively simple. As she explains:
In my work I wish for people to not only see the visible reality but also to feel something invisible. The pictures come alive through the mind of the viewer and the varied and individual experiences they bring to them. I like to think my work is re-born again and again through each viewer’s interpretation.
