About the Company:
The German East Asiatic Society (Ostasiatische Gesellschaft, or OAG), was founded in Tokyo in 1873 as an independent entity by German merchants, scholars and diplomats with the objective of fostering research on Japan and other East Asian countries and increasing public understanding of East Asia. We combine this scientific mission with social activities. Our programme includes excursions, festivals, exhibitions and other cultural activities as well as lectures and publications. The active contributions of our members are essential to the diversity in our programme which provides a forum for anyone who wishes to exchange ideas or make new friends.
